While walking around the stunning building that is Oslo Opera House I walked past a b-girl and b-boy who where dancing on the roof with a stereo and a pram beside them. Eyebrows raised, a quick introduction chat and the camera was out and we had a mini shoot on the go!
These guys where awesome; Asta aged 34 works as an ashtanga yoga teacher and has a degree in theology, Heine aged 20 works at fixing cars and worked in a store before that.
They dance on the roof as they love the location, it looks nice and has inspiring people passing by etc.
My final question before I left was did the pram actually have a baby in it or was it for something else? Turns out they did! Asta’s 18 month old daughter was having her afternoon nap.
It was a fun encounter! And it summed up one of the joys of being a photographer… it opens up doors to meeting different people and getting insight into their lives.
Thanks Asta & Heine !
A few images from last summers lifestyle shoot at the stunning location that is Silver Bay in Anglesey. This was my 1st shoot after returning home from an amazing USA roadtrip (still to blog it!) I drove down with the team from Pixel 8 to do a shoot for their client Silver Bay.
We captured a series of lifestyle images to show how stunning the beach is and how much fun people have when they go there. It was such a fun few days I must admit it still felt like I was still in sunny California!
I’ve wanted to add some gritty winter sports images to my portfolio this year and teamed up with my local coffee shop buddy Oliver Goss to capture these sports lifestyle winter fell running shots in the Yorkshire Moors.
As a professional rugby player for Yorkshire Carnegie Oli is not afraid of a challenge, which was just as well as this shoot involved a 5am start with a hike in the pitch dark up into the Moors so we could capture some pre dawn moody winter sky.
Once in position it was a case of me lying in wet grass and mud while Oli ran up and down hills back and forth while I snapped away. I still feel guilty for sending him up one gigantic hill the shots of which never made the final cut sorry Oli!
I was approached by the team at WeareCoda who wanted to launch a new well being brand for their client Nina Torina.
The brief was to show Ninas’s warmth, humanity and zest for life in a light, bright, upbeat image. After chatting with Nina it was quickly obvious she had all of this in abundance and my job would be just to put her at ease and capture her being her true self. We had a fun afternoon in the studio and its been great to see one of the final images in pride of place on her new website.
I’ve popped one of my favourites below you can also check out her lovely new website on www.ninatorina.com
Twice a year I get to drive down to sunny Cheshire and capture some of the team at Ellis Whittam. We were blessed with stunning bright low winter sunshine and spoilt for choice of locations to capture a range of corporate portraits. One of the images is below…
I got to widen my skillset on this recent prospectus shoot for Salford University to “hand photography specialist”.
Their design team needed some creative hand shots they could use in the themed prospectus.
On top of getting lifestyle shots at the student accommodation and a series of shots of students hands we went into Manchester to pick up some shots showing the buzz of the city centre. We even managed to stop off at the iconic Salford Lads club on the way a place I’d never managed to visit in the past, despite living in Manchester for over 10 years.
Really looking forward to seeing the prospectus later this week and how they have used the images!
In the meantime here are some of the hand shots …
I was approached by DS Emotion Manchester who needed a shoot for their client Archon Guarding who they were doing a rebrand for. I spent a day with the Archon team and after getting a mix of staff portraits and natural at work around the office shots they took me round some of their client locations in Manchester.
The final location was Spinningfields in Manchester it was around 3.30pm in December so almost dark and we had heavy wind and rain. Luckily they gave me super Mo – their most patient and friendly / upbeat security guard! He braved the elements without any complaint as I followed him around Spinningfields and got the below shots. The day’s shoot produced a wide range of shots with many different people but I love how these 3 images work as a set together.
My friends at Manto were doing some filming this weekend with cyclist and friend of ours Steve (The Fast Hog) Hodgson in the stunning Stainwood Forest at Norwood Edge.
I’ve wanted to do a shoot in more extreme weather conditions for a while now and saw as the perfect opportunity with rich autumn colours, rain and heavy fog!
Huge thanks to the team at Manto for organising everything and of course a massive thanks to Steve for being an all round great sport and smiling throughout the shoot despite being in torrential rain and losing feeling in his hands due to the cold!
I got to spend an afternoon photographing head Chef Mario and his team at Bibis Italian Restaurant and some of the stunning food they create.
Huge thanks to the warm friendly staff at Bibis for making me feel so welcome and for the amazing food that kept me going all day!
Also thanks to the team at Brilliant Social Media for introducing me it was fun!
